A coalition of individuals, including a French mayor, a group of retired Swiss women, and a group of children from Portugal, have launched three lawsuits to put pressure on their respective governments to take stronger action against climate change.
The Swiss Supreme Court has ruled in favor of elderly Swiss women who claim their government violated their human rights by not doing enough to combat climate change. The ruling, which was attended by supporters including environmental campaigner Greta Tunberg, highlights the ongoing planetary emergency and the suffering of hundreds of thousands of people.

Greta Thunberg said on the ruling: “People have been living on the front lines of the climate emergency and having witnessing and bearing the brunt of its consequences for a very long time.

Speaking from the European Court of Human Rights in the French city of Strasbourg, she said “This is not a future threat, we’re talking about here. It’s a current planetary emergency where hundreds of thousands of people are being affected are losing their homes or becoming climate refugees are losing their lives suffering.”
The ruling aims to link climate change and human rights, highlighting the lack of action taken by Swiss governments to tackle greenhouse gas emissions. The ruling highlights the urgent need for a more comprehensive approach to combating climate change and ensuring the rights of women.
