James and Jennifer Crumbley have been sentenced to 10-15 years each for a deadly gun attack by their son, Ethan, in 2021 at Oxford High School in Michigan.
The parents are the first to be held responsible for a school shooting carried out by their child. Ethan, who was 15 at the time, killed four students and injured seven others, serving life in prison without parole.
His mother and father were found guilty of four counts of involuntary manslaughter, one for each victim who died. Prosecutors claimed the Crumbleys failed to spot warning signs in their son and had bought him the weapon he used.
Judge Cheryl Matthews sentenced both to 10-15 years behind bars, with credit for the 858 days they have already served in Oakland County Jail. Family members expressed disgust with the Crumbleys and said their “failure to act” had brought lifelong pain to others.
