Angela Rayner has stated that she continues to advocate for the abolition of nuclear weapons from the world.
This comes just hours after Sir Keir Starmer claimed that his entire shadow cabinet supported his stance on the nuclear deterrent for the United Kingdom.
Sir Keir declared on Monday that he was ready to employ military force to safeguard the United Kingdom and declared a “triple lock” commitment to the maintenance of the Trident system.
Several members of his shadow cabinet, including shadow foreign secretary David Lammy and deputy leader Angela Rayner, voted against renewing the Trident deterrent in 2016.
In response to this inquiry, Sir Keir stated, “I am the leader of this party. I have changed the party affiliation. He reiterated that the Shadow cabinet and entire cabinet were behind him on the issue, and if givem the opportunity to serve as prime minister of the United Kingdom his commitment to the triple Trident lock was crystal clear, and he had every single cabinet member on board.

Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, stated that his entire shadow cabinet supported his stance on the Trident system. However, Rayner informed the BBC hours later that her stance on nuclear weapons had not changed.
She stated to the BBC, “My position has not changed. “Several years ago, during a vote, multilateral disarmament was not addressed. However, I believe it is crucial for the long term that we consider disarmament of nuclear weapons on a global scale, but that this must be accomplished in collaboration with other nations.”
The deputy leader stated in a tweet that she “completely supported” Labour’s triple lock commitment to Trident and that, “in a world where Putin’s war is on the doorstep of Europe,” the United Kingdom’s nuclear deterrent is “more important than ever.”
She responded on ITV when asked whether the party had divided over the matter: “No, we are fully dedicated to nuclear defence; we have our triple lock and three programmes.”
Ms. Rayner cast a vote against Trident in 2016, when the party was led by Jeremy Corbyn. Regarding her position at the time, she tweeted, “I am astounded that we can find the funds for this while stealing £30 per week from disabled people.” “I appreciate the tremendous support regarding my position regarding Trident.”
The defence secretary, Grant Shapps, described Sir Keir’s speech as “empty” and criticised him for failing to commit to a 2030 deadline for allocating 2.5% of GDP to defence expenditure. “Starmer’s foreign secretary nominee, David Lammy, has deemed the United Kingdom’s nuclear deterrent’senseless,'” he stated.
He claimed that the assertion that Labour has transformed its defence policy is refuted. He said, “It is evident that Starmer lacks the conviction and courage to defend the security of the United Kingdom.”
