Two British men, Christopher Berry and Christopher Cash (who previously worked as a Parliamentary researcher), have been charged with spying for China under the Official Secrets Act.
The Metropolitan Police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have worked closely on the investigation, leading to the charges. Berry, 32, from Witney, and Cash, 29, from Whitechapel, are accused of obtaining, collecting, recording, publishing, or communicating articles, notes, documents, or information that could be useful to an enemy between December 2021 and February 2023
The Metropolitan Police has requested that public and media interest be kept to a minimum, and criminal proceedings against the defendants are currently ongoing. The Metropolitan Police urges no further comment or speculation to ensure a fair trial for the two men.
Nick Price, head of the CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, added: “Christopher Berry, 32, and Christopher Cash, 29, will be charged with providing prejudicial information to a foreign state, China, and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 26 April.
