MUNYAO WINS LONDON MARATHON

Kenya’s Alexander Munyao and Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir won the men’s and women’s London Marathon 2024 on Sunday (21 April).

In the men’s race, Alexander Mutiso Munyao of Kenya finished first in a time of 2 minutes and four seconds. Kenenisa Bekele, a legendary track star, was beaten by the 27-year-old.

Despite having won the Olympic 10,000-meter gold medal some 20 years earlier, Bekele was making his first effort at winning London, the 41-year-old Ethiopian runner was content with second place.

Kenyan woman Peres Jepchirchir wins London Marathon as first woman to cross its line

In third and fourh position respectively were the brilliant British finishers Emile Cairess and  another British runner Mahamed Mahamed.

As the first woman to finish today’s marathon, Kenya’s Peres Jepchirchir broke records. As the first female finisher in the elite women’s race, she  beat the previous world recor crossing the finish line in 2:16:16.

Tge previous woman’s record was held by Mary Keitany, also from Kenya, had previously set the record in 2:17:01.
