India lost its native cheetahs decades ago, with the species officially declared extinct in the country in 1952. The modern effort to bring them back, called Project Cheetah, began when African cheetahs were relocated to India starting in 2022
In India, right now, at Kuno National Park, this cheetah called Gamini just had her fourth cub. Yeah—four little spotted fluffballs, all healthy and bouncing about. It’s part of Project Cheetah, bringing them back after they vanished from there ages ago. The whole population’s up to thirty-nine now, and honestly? Watching those cubs play… it’s like nature’s saying, “We’ve got this.”
Look—here’s Gamini with her babies, all cuddly in the grass.
