Senator Dragged from DHS Press Conference —Handcuffed for Asking a Question!

California Senator Alex Padilla (D) was forcefully removed and put in handcuffs during a Department of Homeland Security press briefing from Secretary Kristi Noem in Los Angeles.

Padilla attempted to ask about the escalation of ICE deportation raids tied to nationwide anti-immigrant protests. Despite identifying himself as a senator, plainclothes agents pushed him out, kneeled on him, and handcuffed him—all recorded on video.

The DHS defended the move, claiming Padilla disrupted a live event and didn’t properly identify himself, yet video evidence appears to contradict that version. Democrats—from Governor Gavin Newsom to Senator Chuck Schumer—condemned the incident as “dictatorial” and “outrageous”. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has demanded a full investigation.

This confrontation arrives amid a broader pattern—mayors and congressional aides have also faced arrest or handcuffs while carrying out official duties or protests. Critics argue the militarised federal response to L.A. protests and deployment of National Guard and Marines signal the US politicisation of law enforcement.
