Donald Trump is holding talks in Qatar on the second leg of his four-day Middle East tour. Before flying to Doha, Trump met with the Syrian president in Riyadh, urging him to normalize relations with Israel. The meeting came after Trump lifted sanctions on Syria, saying it would “give them a chance at greatness.” Trump later praised the Syrian leader and said it’s possible he’ll join peace talks in Turkey with Ukraine and Russia tomorrow.
During their meeting, Trump met with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and their meeting will soon produce statements about agreement made. During this visit, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt are also attending.
A transcript of the first exchange between Trump and the Emir of Qatar is imminent.
…and as for the Trump Organisation?
Trump is hoping to drum up investment for the US during his trip, following a series of business deals announced by the Trump Organisation, which is run by the president’s sons, Eric and Donald Jr.
These include plans to build golf courses and luxury villas in Qatar and the UAE.
A deal was announced at the beginning of May to develop a Trump-branded luxury 18-hole golf course and a collection of luxury villas north of Qatar’s capital, Doha.
In April, the company announced plans to build “the region’s first Trump International Hotel & Tower” in the “heart of Dubai” consisting of 80 floors of luxury living and world-class hospitality.
