Councillor Wera Hobhouse is the new local Liberal Democrat party leader after Councillor Irene Davidson gave up her seat on Wednesday.
A total of 10 councillors resigned and four more were voted out.
Hobhouse, represents Norden, said her party had to show voters what they stood for after they lost 14 councillors over the last 12 months.
