SITCEN : THE GOVERNMENT’S “SECRET DATA” CENTRE

SitCen” refers to the National Situation Centre, a UK government facility within the Cabinet Office. It’s not far from the Cabinet Office’s COBRA office.

The SitCen team, the Situation Centre in the UK, is working on a tool that will provide officials with real-time crisis data, such as public health risks. The team monitors various situations 24/7, including industrial relations breakdowns and public health risks like Foot and Mouth disease outbreaks in Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia.

The SitCen team monitor world-wide and national situations and provide information on strategic positions to Police, Local Authorities, MPs and Cabinet

They also monitor human behavior, such as the murder of three young girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance club, to ensure Police and ministers had the information they needed to respond in real time the race riots that took place after the murders.

The SitCen team monitored aggregated mobile phone data, social media and other data to identify likely incident hotspots of activity of national race riots, ensuring both Police, local authorities and ministers had the information they needed to respond in real-time.

The new risk vulnerability tool will assist those working in the SitCen and others around the country by helping them identify areas with limited access to gas supplies that may need more support. It will also help authorities pinpoint hotspots for children under six or those over 65, helping authorities to tailor campaigns to meet specific cultural needs and provide more fundamental support.

The SitCen and risk vulnerability tool are not just technological advancements but also the government’s inability to deliver when the country needed it most during the pandemic. The intention behind the SitCen and its risk vulnerability tool is to ensure that the country will never be left so badly supported again. The team behind SitCen and its risk vulnerability tool is committed to learning from the past and improving the government’s ability to deliver on its promises.
