The Liberals have won the 2025 general election in Canada, with the party winning the most seats in Ontario and Quebec, which account for 200 of the country’s 343 electoral districts.
The Conservatives are ahead in Alberta, while there is little to choose between the two main parties in British Columbia. The Liberals were elected or leading in 25 of 32 ridings in Atlantic Canada, while the Conservatives were at seven.
Prime Minister Mark Carney, a former central banker with a global resume, is set to stay on as Canada’s prime minister as the Liberal Party is projected to win a fourth term.

Carney, who was sworn into the position last month after the shock resignation of his predecessor, Justin Trudeau, has a global resume and has praised his experience handling global economic crises and pledged to stand up to US President Donald Trump amid the ongoing trade war.
Despite the Liberals falling short of the majority they wanted, there is still excitement that Carney is the country’s next prime minister. Some volunteers also see the prospect of Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre losing his own seat in Ottawa as another win.
