The legal definition of a woman, according to the UK Supreme Court, is one of biological sex.
While warning that the landmark decision should not be interpreted as triumph of one side over another, judges said the “concept of sex is binary.”

While For Women Scotland contended they only applied to those born female, the Scottish government had contended that transgender people having a gender recognition certificate (GRC) are entitled to sex-based protections.


While charity Scottish Trans advises people “not to panic,” For Women Scotland claims it is thankful for the ruling following a “long road” of legal struggles.
A UK government spokesman said the decision gives women “clarity and confidence” as well as hospitals, refuges, sports clubs, and other services.
