Drivers who travel through Corby’s main high street, George Street, will face fines from Tuesday 16th April next week.
The council has introduced a new traffic regulation order (TRO) to enforce the rules, backed by automatic number plate recognition cameras.
Traffic will not be allowed to drive along the length of George Street, but will still be able to use Cardigan Place and Everest Lane but must not travel across the main zebra crossing between James Ashworth Square and Corporation Street.

Only taxis, buses, and cyclists will be allowed to enter the main crossing section between 8am and 6pm between Mondays and Saturdays.
The estimated £350,000 cost of the scheme will be met by the Government’s Towns Fund and follows extensive local consultation.
Breaching the order will result in a fine of £70 (reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days). A grace period of six months will be in place, allowing drivers to adjust to the change. The amended TRO does not completely restrict access, and buses, taxis, private hire, and cyclists will still be able to access the section.
