UAE backing Advanced Reactor from Warrington

A nuclear reactor under development in Warrington has made significant progress.
MoltexFLEX, a nuclear facility located at Birchwood Park, has gained support from a company based in the United Arab Emirates for its nuclear reactor technology.
The Birchwood firm inked a memorandum at this year’s COP28 summit in Dubai.

MoltexFLEX has informed the Warrington Guardian that Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and MoltexFLEX, a British advanced nuclear technology developer, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement represents a significant advancement in the process of making the FLEX reactor available for commercial use.

MoltexFLEX utilises molten salts instead of gases in nuclear reactions. This means that in the event of a leak, if the molten salt were to come into contact with the atmosphere, it would freeze. Consequently, this would reduce the potential risk compared to a scenario where gases leaked and dispersed into the surrounding region.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by His Excellency Mohamed Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), and David Landon, CEO of MoltexFLEX, on Friday, December 8. The signing took place at the World Nuclear Association Net Zero Nuclear event in Dubai, which was held in conjunction with the COP28 climate conference.

The signing ceremony was graced by the presence of Edward Hobart CMG, the British ambassador to the UAE, together with delegates from the UK government.
The British ambassador expressed admiration for the significant achievements of a pioneering British company in the United Arab Emirates. The Department for Business and Trade of the UK, based in the UAE, is pleased to be engaged in a strong partnership with MoltexFLEX.

He said that the commitments contained in this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) demonstrate further trust in UK technology and will establish the foundation for a mutually advantageous partnership between two compatible allies.

The CEO of Moltex, David Landon, expressed his satisfaction in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a highly esteemed participant in the international nuclear sector. This announcement comes at a time when global cooperation in combatting climate change is at the forefront. We are certain that ENEC’s interest underscores the capacity of our FLEX reactor to offer cost-effective and environmentally friendly heat and energy for a diverse range of applications.

He said that the company was enthusiastic about participating in the increasing cooperation between the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates. He said his MoltexFLEX team was eager to establish closer partnerships with a significant potential developer, as well as suppliers and academic institutions in the region.”

Regarding advertising, David stated that they will also investigate possibilities in the Middle East and other regions, in line with MoltexFLEX’s objective of globally implementing the FLEX reactor.
