Hurricane Gustav continues to move through the Caribbean and is now a category 3 storm (expected to reach category 4 before making landfall in the US). On present estimates, landfall in the US is possible on Monday afternoon or evening (local time) on 1 September. Although it is not yet clear where Gustav may make landfall, or at what strength, projections show an increasing likelihood of the hurricane coming inshore along the Louisiana Coast. The Governor of Louisiana has declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard.
