From West End Success to Arts Champion
Sir Richard Stilgoe has enjoyed one of Britain’s most distinguished careers as a songwriter, lyricist, broadcaster and musician, helping to create some of the world’s most successful stage musicals while becoming a passionate advocate for arts education.


Best known for his creative partnership with Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stilgoe contributed to several landmark productions that transformed musical theatre.

His work on Cats marked the beginning of a long collaboration, before he went on to help write Starlight Express and play an important role in the early development of The Phantom of the Opera. His lyrical contributions helped shape productions that have captivated audiences across the globe.


A Champion of the Arts

Away from the stage, Sir Richard has dedicated much of his life to supporting young performers and expanding access to the arts.

He founded the Orpheus Centre, providing opportunities for young people with disabilities to develop their creative talents, and has supported numerous charitable and educational initiatives through his work.


His lifelong commitment to music, theatre and public service was recognised with a knighthood in 2012 for services to charity and the performing arts.
