ORG : Open Briefing on Remote Control Warfare Systems

The fifth in the Remote Control Project’s remote-control briefing series from Open Briefing, has been published today. The briefings cover developments in five key areas or remote warfare: special forces, private military and security companies, unmanned vehicles and autonomous weapon systems, cyber warfare and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

This month’s stories include details of a recent report by Amnesty International that has found the investigation and prosecution practices employed by US special operation forces (SOF) in relation to Afghan civilian deaths are falling short of basic transparency requirements.  There is also news that state and non-state hacker groups have launched cyber attacks on Israel in response to Operation Protective Edge, as well as news of US launched drone strikes against Islamic State in Iraq.

The Remote Control project is a project of the Network for Social Change hosted by Oxford Research Group. The project examines changes in military engagement, in particular the use of drones, special forces, private military companies and cyber warfare.
