Hurricane Milton – “Storm of the Century”

Hurricane Milton,  has been called a “storm of the century,” is expected to double its wind field by the time it makes landfall in the US, causing up to 15ft of storm surge along the Florida coast, including Tampa, St Petersburg, and Sarasota. The National Hurricane Center warns that Milton has the potential to be one of the most destructive hurricanes on record for west-central Florida. Governor Ron DeSantis stated that the impact of the storm would be “broader than that … absolutely every place on the west coast of Florida could get major storm surge.” He also announced that 8,000 national guard members would be activated and that Florida’s needs have been approved. Mayor Jane Castor of Tampa warned that a 15ft storm surge would leave residents in a coffin, and authorities have issued mandatory evacuation orders across 11 Florida counties. 5 million people are evacuating to safer places leaving their homes and businesses.
