Jailed After CCTV Captured Kidnap Attempt at Station

Osman Moalem Jailed After CCTV-Captured Kidnap Attempt at Liverpool Lime Street

A 25-year-old man, Osman Moalem, has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for attempting to abduct a 19-year-old student at Liverpool Lime Street station last October.

What Happened:
On October 28, 2024, Osman Moalem approached the victim as she waited for friends outside the station. CCTV footage clearly shows him grab her arm and attempt to drag her away, despite her shouting for help and struggling to free herself.

Public Intervention:
Bystanders, including an elderly couple, intervened—threatening to call the police—yet Moalem persisted and even followed the woman into the station. British Transport Police arrived shortly thereafter and arrested him.

Court Outcome:
Moalem was charged with attempted kidnap and tried at Liverpool Crown Court, where he was found guilty on April 24, 2025. Last Friday, he received a 27-month custodial sentence. He remained unrepentant throughout, denying the offence despite video evidence.

Police Praise:
Detective Constable Olivia Hill lauded the victim for her courage and thanked the public for their assistance, stressing the vital role of CCTV in this conviction. BTP urged anyone witnessing a crime on transport networks to act swiftly: call 999 or text 61016.

Public response has been supportive of both the young woman and law enforcement. Shared CCTV footage has sparked discussions on passenger safety and the effectiveness of surveillance systems.
