It is reported that at just before 19.00 hrs (BST) that Libyan rebels have taken control of Col Muammar Gaddafi’s Bab al-Aziziya compound in Tripoli. However it is not known whether the Libyan leader or members of his family are in the compound.
Although there are some areas of the city are Pro-Gaddafi supporters showing resistance, it is believed that the Libyan rebels have captured most of the city of Tripoli.
The rebels have been shown destroying statues – including the iconic golden hand crushing a US fighter jet. There has also been firing of guns in celebration.
