Liberty Campaign: Don’t Spy on Us

libertyIt may be hard to believe, but it’s been nearly a year since whistleblower Edward Snowden lifted the lid on the NSA and GCHQ’s breathtaking blanket surveillance. To mark the anniversary, the Don’t Spy On Us coalition – which Liberty is a member of – invites you to join the fight against out-of-control snooping at the biggest privacy event of the year.

WHEN: Saturday, June 7 at 1.15pm
WHERE: Shoreditch Town Hall, 380 Old Street, London, EC1V 9LT

Speakers lined up for the Day of Action include our very own Director, Shami Chakrabarti, The Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales, actor Stephen Fry, leading human rights lawyer Helena Kennedy and many more.

The mass snooping our securocrats have been indulging in is a blatant violation of our right to a private life under Article 8 of the Human Rights Act. Hoovering up the communications of innocent people – without judicial oversight or effective safeguards – is a breach of trust on the grandest scale imaginable.
